Capturing needs and writing stuff down

Highlights

Two standout sessions this week, around a project to understand the needs of users of a risk management system. Different perspectives in the sessions as the users had different needs and roles. It’s always a fascinating ball of wool to unravel what is a need related to the system or the underlying policies and processes. My colleague, Gruff did a great job of moving everything along, while I typed away, treating everyone to a view of my sparsely thatched head. Since a recent training session on ‘AI in the Workplace’, I’ve been trying to do do a bit more, so gave it the task of cleaning my notes. Exactly the kind of thing it should be good at, and it was handy. Hardly a groundbreaking revelation, but you gotta start somewhere.

Later in the I used it more to take notes from a transcription of a meeting, which did save a lot of work - but doesn’t remove the need to take notes - which I use the keep myself on track in the meeting. I am finding it interesting that just going to a session, has given me the impetus to start trying things. The write up of the session is still languishing in the ToDo list, but I have an incentive to get it done.

Elsewhere, I wrote up outputs from the sessions on our continued used of Miro - covering Governance and Compliance angles, and shared session notes with people from previous weeks. The task feels incomplete until I’ve shared session notes, and it’s an important step to avoid a Rashomon style variation in recollections.

Went as a newbie on another project - this time around the use of SMS for reminders. A tight timeframe for that one, and something that is likely to grow - I liked Monika’s desire to abstract the processes into wider service patterns, since it seems like it will be replicated across lots of services in the future.

And finally, a meeting getting read for more sessions digging into user needs for a new screening program next year.

I think I’m ready for a break now.

Off to mash away on the new old typewriter I was possessed to buy. Already had some great value by taking it apart and fixing it.

Media

Not much to report on the media front - starting to get warmed up with Will Self’s memoir
